Wilma lived in Landa most of her early life. In 1936, her dad bought the grocery store in Lake Bronson, MN. In 1938, her dad passed away so the family moved back to Landa. Most of her schooling was in Landa where she graduated in 1943. After graduation, she worked in the Bottineau telephone office for two years until she joined Bob in Fort Riley. KS and got married.
Wilma Surdahl, 85, of Bottineau, died Friday, May 6, 2011, at a Bottineau nursing home.
Wilma G. Surdahl, a daughter of Nels and Stella (Larson) Brekke, was born on March 10, 1926, at Rugby. She was reared at Landa and graduated from Landa High School. She moved to Bottineau and worked as a telephone operator. She married Robert Surdahl on March 31, 1945, at Fort Riley, Kan. They settled on a farm south of Landa. They moved into Bottineau in 1965. Bob passed away Jan. 20, 1996. Wilma moved to Edgewood Vista in Minot in 2004 and in 2009 she moved into the Bottineau Good Samaritan Center.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Bottineau. She was active in the Bottineau Homemakers. During their retirement years, they loved square dancing and traveling in their RV.
She is survived by her two sons, Paul and Roger, both of Minot, and one brother, Robert Brekke, and his wife, Aleeta, of Rosemount, Minn.
The funeral will be Wednesday, at 2 p.m., in First Lutheran Church in Bottineau.
