Inez Elzene Peterson, the daughter of Edwin C. and Julia A. (Wigg) Peterson was born June 22, 1916 west of Morton Mills in Washington Township of Montgomery County, Iowa. She died on Friday, March 31, 2006 at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 89 years, 9 months and 9 days.
Inez was about six years old when she moved with her family to the farm, where she lived over 80 years until 2003, when she entered the Red Oak Good Samaritan Center. In her younger years, she helped other families in their homes. She was baptized at the Strand Lutheran Church and worked many years doing "God's" work. Inez was a long time member of the Strand Ladies Aid. In 1941, after the death of her father, Inez stayed on the farm with her mother and brother, Howard. Her mother died in l965 and Inez continued to help Howard in the fields and at home. Her favorite story was how she wheeled her baby brother up the sidewalk in his buggy when he was six months old. She attended Morton Mills Church and Ladies Aid. She enjoyed neighborhood clubs. Inez designed the quilt block of Morton Mills Church which hangs in the Montgomery County Court House. She didn't travel much, but was always busy with the farm, ladies aid and other community projects. Inez was proud of her Norwegian heritage and could tell history of many families. She was not to busy for her nieces & nephews of which they learned the value of life. In the later years, her health failed and she stayed at home until 2003 when she entered the nursing home. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, May Doll, nephews, Orin Doll, Lee Doll, Paul Eugene Doll and a niece, Darlene Sanders O'Kay.
Inez is survived by her brother, Howard Peterson of Red Oak, Iowa; her sister, Mrs. Erma Sanders of Dallas Center, Iowa; nieces, Mary Baker of Villisca, IA, Ellen Havens of Villisca, IA, Joyce Cherry, Eula Hiatt and Carol Graham all of Council Bluffs, IA; nephew, Galen Doll of Red Oak, IA, great-nieces & nephews, great-great-nieces & nephews, other relatives and friends.
