After leaving MI he spent time at Hillsboro, ND, with Oscar Leeland and from there went to SD. He remained in Mitchell until his death. Valborg's first child was born in SD. This was Lottie. Oscar Leeland was born August 12th, 1859 in Flekkefjord, Norway. At the age of 21 he came to the U.S. He first settled in Blue Earth County, Minn. He later moved to Hillsboro, ND where he was engaged in farming.
On June 15th, 1888 he married Miss Mary Larson. Two boys & one girl were born to this union. The boys died in infancy & the mother died January 18, 1892. He later married Miss Tilda Forkelson. He came to Bottineau Co. in 1900 & homesteaded near Landa ND, where he farmed until 1919. He retired on account of poor health & moved to Landa, ND. His second wife died Jan. 23, 1925.
Mr. Leeland had been failing in health for the last year. He passed away 12/18/31. Funeral services were held from the Methodist Episcopal church on Wed. afternoon. Rev. Paul Haugan of Grand Forks officiated, He was buried in the Landa cemetery. The pall bearers were; Gilbert Ryan, Brede Ryan, O.M. Borgen, O.J. Elefson, John Engstrom & Ivar Sem.
He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Cleve Mortenson of Landa, one brother Ole Leeland of Mitchell S.D., two sisters Mrs. Nels Sandstol of Landa & Mrs. Sophie Thompson residing in Norway.
