She was buried on 14 December 1994 in Woodlawn Cem, Sioux Falls, SD. Margaret grew up on the family farm near Landa, ND. After earning her RN, she married John Thompson and moved to Mitchell, SD. She lived there until she and the family moved to the Jensen farm one mile north and three-fourths of a mile east of Storla. They lived there for a short time until moving to the place Oskar Thompson had lived on. She was a busy woman carrying for four boys, her husband, and helping with the farm work. She was also very active in church activities, especially the WMF of the ELCA. When she and John retired from farming, they moved to Storla where she worked as an RN in the Storla Sunset Home. They next moved to Mitchell where she was head nurse at the Beebe Retirement Home. They then moved to Sioux Falls where she worked at the Good Samaritan Home as well as Luther Manor and did special nursing. After John died, she married Lee Branson. He died a short while later and then she married Al Barnes. After a joyful time with Al which included lots of bowling, he died and then she married Ole Garvick. They enjoyed many years together, especially enjoying owning and driving antique cars. Ole was an excellent and highly respected automobile mechanic. After a full life of service with love, she died on 11 Dec. 1994 in Sioux Falls, SD, Prince of Peace Nursing Home. She was buried on 14 Dec. 1994 in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sioux Falls, SD. Margaret had cancer of the pancreas and liver. After several years of various treatments, the cancer was fatal.

Josephine Margaret Garvick, 83, of 1400 Powder House Road, a former nurse, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 1994, in Prince of Peace Retirement Center, after an extended illness.
Margaret Cleven was born July 10, 1911, in Souris, N.D. She grew up on the family farm near Landa, N.D., and attended high school in Bottineau, N.D. She received her Registered Nurse degree in 1932. She was a graduate from the first class of St. Andrews School of Nursing in Bottineau.
She married John Thompson on Nov. 22, 1932. They made their home in Mitchell. In 1938, they moved to Storla and lived on the Thompson family farm. In 1959, they moved into Storla, where she was the director of Nursing at the Storla Sunset Nursing Home. In 1961, they moved to Mitchell, where she was director of Nursing at the Beebe Retirement Home. In 1963, they moved to Sioux Falls, where she was a nurse at Luther Manor and the head night nurse at the Good Samaritan Center.
She was preceded in death by her husbands: John Thompson, Lee Branson and Albert Barnes.
She married Ole Garvick on Sept. 12, 1975, in Sioux Falls.
She was a member of the Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and superintendent, a member of the Ladies Aid and WMF. She was a member of the Abiding Savior Free Lutheran Church.
In addition to her husband, survivors include, four sons: John Darrell "J.D." Thompson of Sioux Falls; David Thompson of Omaha, Neb.; Oscar Thompson of Storla: and Thomas Thompson of Raleigh, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; one brother, Lester of Sequim, Wash.; two sisters: Mrs. Leroy (Thelma) Olsen of Plankinton; and Mrs. Paul (Verna) Funkhouser of Farragut, Iowa; two half brothers: Robert Surdahl of North Dakota; and Delano Surdahl of New Mexico; and two half sisters: Mrs. Jack (Olive) Jackson and Mrs. Richard (Edith) Lonberg, both of Washington.
Services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Abiding Savior Lutheran Church, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. today in Miller Funeral Home, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m.
Informal prayer services will begin at 7:30 p.m. today in the funeral home.
